The Writer’s Wellspring: A Starting Point

Do you ever feel like your inbox and Facebook feed is overflowing with tips and trick on how to take your writing to the next level? Do you lack the energy to look at a single one?

Has the thought of creating a new world and embarking on adventures with characters of your own creation become a chore instead of a joy?

Do you ever wonder if the voices telling you you’ll never succeed as a writer are right?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I’m glad you’re here.

Merriam-Webster defines a wellspring as a source of continual supply. It’s an origin. A starting point. A beginning. For the writer and editor who is also a Christian, I believe that wellspring comes from a very specific source: A creative God.

As part of His creation, you were specially designed to be creative. You were given a unique voice with your own unique stories to share. Whether it feels like it or not, your voice matters. And so does your gift.

A series of setbacks and in injuries beginning in 2012 left me wondering if I’d spent the past ten years of my life chasing a foolish dream. I all but stopped writing and completely walked away from my writing community. I wandered in a creative desert for the next three years. Had it not been for a writer friend who continued to speak words of encouragement into my life, I probably wouldn’t have begun the process of returning to the work that makes my heart sing.

That’s main purpose of this blog. To encourage you in your creative pursuits and offer a bit of refreshment to your creative spirit when you feel like you’re running dry.

And let’s face it, pouring ourselves out on to the page—no matter what the genre or topic—is draining. If we don’t return to the source of our creative wellspring, eventually we’ll run dry.

So welcome! You won’t find posts about marketing or how to hone and perfect your craft here. (There are plenty of other amazing voices speaking to that need already.) But you will find words of encouragement specifically written with your creative wellspring in mind.

May you find rest and refreshment here.
